Re: UPDATED-2.6.28-rc7 Kernel Image and Headers. 100% Working

This kernel really boots up fast!

However, It didn't immediately recognize the right side card slot (in which I had a 1G SD card). It found it fine after I removed and re-inserted it. It found it fine in the left slot, too, when I inserted it there. I had booted up with an 8G SDHC card in the left side slot but it wouldn't mount that one. Both worked fine with the stock kernel (2.6.27-9).

Also, I noticed in the config that Highmem was disabled. I was trying to compile this off your config so I could change that, and a few other settings (like usbserial so I could plug in my verizon modem), but I could load your config after I copied and pasted it - for some reason it inserts several spaces in front of each line and xconfig doesn't figure it out. So, I went line by line, trying to make mine match yours save those few differences, but I must have missed a few things as the card readers didn't work at all and, though the wireless was detected, it wouldn't connect to any network. Could you post the .config file with the debs so I could download it rather than copy paste (or if anyone knows what I'm doing wrong there, please let me know).

The speed is definitely there, but it looks like sdhc support may be missing, though.

Thanks!

Is this compiled with intel's igg?

I'm trying to get igg working on 8.10 but am having issues. Does anyone have an igg deb for 8.10? I need to compile a kernel because I replaced my PITA Atheros card with an intel 3945 and I need to include the drivers in the kernel. I'm guessing I'm going to have to compile igg too.

It will all have to wait till after finals anway.

Rather than using the "SELECT ALL" link at the top of the code box, use old fashioned click your mouse and scroll down to select all the text. Paste into a text file and it should be ok.

Um.

How do these work?

Say, a fresh install of Hardy, and then apt-get update, apt-get upgrade, and then do I just install the header and image kernels using the package manager? Is that all that's needed?

Got this installed and connected to the net, so I'm 80% happy at this point! I'm just wondering about a few things...

I did the edit for the sound in the file as stated, otherwise I never altered anything...

- My wifi led does not work...is this normal for a typical installation?
- Both of my sd slots work, but i need to reboot the computer for the computer to read them...

Trying to find a version of skype so i can test the webcam..no luck, can anyone point me in the right direction?

Great job! Just on little thing: there is no support anymore for a bluetooth stick. I would be glad if you could put it back if you make a future release of your debs.

I tweaked the 8.10 version a few days ago and had almost everything working except the mic and SD slots. Thought these packages would take care of that and id be done tweaking. instead i have no wifi, no mic, no blinking lights nada after the install. tried to recompile the madwifi drivers so i can get at least wifi working and nope, get two errors. So now i have to format and start from scratch.

:(
